Effect of Accelerated Gravitational Stress on Lymphokine Activated Killer Cell Cytotoxicity

Abstract
A number of studies have suggested that gravity changes may have influence on immune functions. The measurement of cytotoxic capacity of lymphocytes can be a useful parameter to evaluate host' s immune status.
This study investigated the effects of gravitational stress on cytotoxic effects of splenocytes against YAC-1 murine lymphoma cells in vitro by a colorimetric 3-(4,5-dimethyl-thiazol-2-yl)-2, 5-di-phenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay. Exposure
to
gravitational stress clearly decreased the organ index of spleen and thymus and depressed the cellular cytotoxicity of splenocytes.
In conclusion these data show that the gravitational stress can suppress the cytotoxicity of splenocytes in mice.
